Bing.com: What's the hype all about

Bing is a new incarnation of the Microsoft search engine, MSN live. Launched on May 28, 2009 by Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, Bing has an advantage of several features over its predecessors. To begin with, on just going to the search engine website, you are greeted with a refreshing background image, bit of a reprieve for people who are bored with over-simplistic style of Google. We enlist some new features of Bing at the end of this article after we have discussed some relevant questions you may have about Bing.

Here is some intro on what Bing can do:

Web 2.0: What it's all about

Web 2.0 has been applauded and written off right from the inception of the term. Here are a few facts which should clear the air for beginners:

  • Almost everything other than the traditional 'reading information from the Web' is regarded as a component of web 2.0. So when you comment on blog or watch youtube videos etc., it is all termed as Web 2.0.
  • Web 2.0 sees the Internet as a participation platform. It encompasses all techniques which allow users to make their presence felt.
  • Many people regard Web 2.0 paradigm as a technical jargon and nothing else. This includes Tim Berners-Lee who described Web 2.0 as: "Nobody really knows what it means...If Web 2.0 for you is blogs and wikis, then that is people to people. But that was what the Web was supposed to be all along"

Answer websites: The new rage

The Web has for long been an almost static one way mode of communication. Not any more. With the coming up of more and more web-forums, blogs and answer websites all of which allow interactive input from users, the way we used to experience the web is fast shedding its old image. This blog is to demonstrate to you the power of answer sites which allow users to post questions and other users to post comments in responses. One such relatively new website is Mahalo.com.

Mahalo Answers is slightly different from traditional answer sites like Yahoo Answers as it allows askers to tip users for best answers. I have seen people giving out tips as high as $100. This and also the zealousness of the Mahalo community ensures that the responses you receive for your answers are prompt, detailed and simply awesome. Here is an example of the answers I received for my question, "Are usenet and newsgroups synonymous?", both within a span of an hour.
